On 25th November 2016 Stephen Port was sentenced to a whole life tariff for the murder of four men and multiple rapes, his victim was gay men that he had met through online gay dating sites such as the Grindr app and escort directories, he would kill them by administering a fatal dose of the date rape drug GHB and would dump their bodies in locations which were close to his flat, the murders were previously covered in the 2016 BBC Three documentary The Grindr Serial Killer: Stephen Port’s Murders.

How Police Missed The Grindr Killer is a one hour long BBC Three documentary which explores some of the failings of the police officers investigating the case, they did not link the four murders until after the fourth one despite some obvious similarities, and there were several failures to make use of forensic science which would probably have linked the deaths to Port at an earlier stage. Some of the relatives of the victims have accused the police of institutional homophobia, claiming that they weren’t interested in investigating the deaths because the victims were young gay men. Several friends and relatives of the victims appear in this film.
