Director Steven Okazak takes us onto the streets of San Francisco, California in the 2000 documentary film Black Tar Heroin: The Dark End of the Street to follow the lives of addicts.

 

It's a harrowing journey and shows the drug-related degradation of five youths (Jake, Tracey, Jessica, Alice, Oreo) during the course of three years. The documentary depicts their drug-related crimes and diseases, including prostitution, male prostitution, AIDS, and lethal overdoses.

 

For its brutal reality, The Dark End of the Street is considered to be one of the best documentaries about drug addiction ever made.
