Style Wars, a 1983 documentary directed by Tony Silver which explores hip-hop culture and it's links to America.

Style Wars shows how incredibly rich this subculture was during the late 1970's in New York City. Especially because the film was actually made in that era making it one of the closes historical representations of those who loved rap, graffiti art and breakdancing back then.

For those of you who enjoyed the Style Wars documentary, there are a couple of other films you should check out which follow similar themes. Bomb it (2007) this follows the history of Graffiti art specifically with a focus on culture during the early 80's to the modern day, making it a film which encompasses one aspect of Style Wars. Just For Kicks (2005), OK, this is only indirectly related but it is about the sneaker subculture and it's strong ties to hip-hop.
