Häxan, a 1922 fictionalised Danish-Swedish silent documentary about the evolution of witchcraft through the ages from its pagan roots by Danish filmmaker Benjamin Christensen.
The title of the film "Häxan" comes from the study of how the misunderstanding of mental illness and diseases leads to hysteria and witch-hunts. The film is considered to be a documentary but many of the meticulously recreated scenes are more comparable to horror movies.
