“Forest Man“ is the story of Jadav Payeng, an Indian man who single-handedly planted nearly 1400 acres of forest to save his island, Majuli.
Written and directed by Canadian filmmaker William Douglas McMaster, this 2013 short-documentary provides a glimpse into an amazing story, that could well have been completely forgotten about. Ultimately the film leaves many questions unanswered but we can certainly see the vision of the forest man and that his actions go beyond any words. He singlehandedly planted an entire forest which now covers an area larger than New York Cities Central Park. The idea is that the trees would strengthen the soil and save the island which is home to more than 150,000 people.
