Cocaine Cowboys 2 is, as the title suggests, the 2008 sequel to the critically acclaimed 2006 documentary Cocaine Cowboys. If you haven’t watched the first documentary then you really should, and it is probably necessary to watch it first due to the background that it gives on the activities of Colombian druglord Griselda Blanco (follow the link to watch it right here on this site). The film was initially titled Cocaine Cowboys II: Hustlin’ with the Godmother, but is now officially known as ‘Cocaine Cowboys 2′.

The documentary is narrated by Charles Cosby, a former drug dealer from Oakland, California. It is set in 1991 and tells the story of the time that Cosby, a small-time drug dealer, writes to the ‘godmother’ of cocaine Griselda Blanco who is serving time at a federal prison. The fan letter changes Cosby’s life and six months later he is a multi-millionaire, Blanco’s lover, and the head of her cocaine empire with a turnover of $40 million a year. The two films together provide one of the most fascinating insights into top level drugs moguls that one could gain. Blanco died in 2012 after being executed by ‘motorcycle assassination’, a murder technique that Blanco herself is credited with inventing.
