The documentary, Cocaine Cowboys takes us back to the 80's where a number of Colombian cocaine barons moved into Miami. Along with that came a wave of crime and violence that the United States had not seen since the prohibition era.
Miami was put on the map during the 80's for this reason and it also inspired movies such as "Scarface" and the TV show "Miami Vice".
