Mahatma: Life of Gandhi, a three-part documentary presented by Vithalbhai Jhaveri about Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi was an Indian activist commonly known as ‘Mahatma’ (meaning ‘Great Soul’), he was born in Porbandar, Gujarat, in North West India, on 2nd October 1869. He was a devout Hindu and throughout his life strictly suck to its principles of vegetarianism, no alcohol and the absence of sex. As well as practising Hinduism Gandhi also studies other religions to their roots which influenced his unique and forward-thinking style of activism as we see in this Gandhi documentary.

 

One of Gandhi’s greatest achievements was leading the push for India’s independence from colonial British rule during the 1930’s and 40’s. His quiet, logical approach to addressing the masses and advocation of non-violent protests earned him Time magazines “Man of the Year” in 1931. To this day Mahatma Gandhi is one of the most influential figures in the world.
