Korengal is a sequel to the extremely popular 2010 film “Restrepo” directed by Tim Hetherington about men on the front line in Afghanistan. Filmmaker Sebastian Junger continues the story in the most dangerous valley in the country, Korengal as he makes a further documentation of soldiers putting their life on the line 24 hours a day against a brutal and unforgiving enemy.
In the movie we see interviews with soldiers of the 'Battle' Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, and 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team with whom Tim spent 10 months. Most of the footage you will watch in this documentary was shot in 2007 and 2008 which were particularly tough years for patriots fighting the war.
Photojournalist Tim Hetherington actually died three years before the release of “Korengal” while recording the Libyan Civil War which makes this documentary a testament to his work.
