Vincent Van Gogh is one of the worlds most famous artists to have ever lived. Unfortunately, he is not remembered by the public-at-large for his enigmatic artwork, rather as a mad-man who cut his ear off.

The 2010 "Van Gogh: Painted with Words" art documentary hosted by Alan Yentob paints a portrait of the man, so we can better understand what drove his creative side. Using exact quotes from letters Van Gogh sent to his younger brother Theo, and of those around him, we see a dramatisation of his life with Benedict Cumberbatch playing Van Gogh.

With this documentary is a dramatisation it tries to stay true to events which probably happened in real life. And for that, the film won a Rockie for Best Arts Documentary at the Banff World Media Festival in 2011.
