It has been estimated that thousands of women are killed by their partners every year in the country. Domestic violence is higher than it should be everywhere around the world, In Russia however, the problem is particularly bad as it is still so deeply rooted in their culture. There is even an old saying - “If he beats you, it means he loves you”.
Yes despite the problem it seems like not much is being done by the government. In fact in February 2017 laws protecting those suffering from domestic violence were over-turned which is perplexing, to say the least.
To find out for her documentary "Stacey Dooley Investigates: Russia's War on Women" Stacey travels to Russia to find out why the government has seemingly started a war on women which can only end in more murders. She meets with women who have experienced bad domestic abuse and meets a violent abuser face-to-face.
