The 2008 Religulous documentary by American comedian and political commentator Bill Maher takes a look at the state of religion around the world.
Maher grew up in a religious family as his mother is Jewish and his father Catholic. Despite growing up with Catholicism he is very sceptical about the dogma of religion and believes that it has now become a detriment to the progress of humanity, certainly in the 21st century.
"Religulous" was originally given the working title "A Spiritual Journey". This is because Bill travels around the world to iconic places associated with religion including Jerusalem, the Vatican, and Salt Lake City. He also tours the Creation Museum and the Holy Land Experience, of course with Bill being a comedian the film is often light-hearted.
The reception of Religulous was mixed though it has maintained high ratings and was praised for its blend of being funning and offensive.
