A documentary about determination and never giving up. Percy Julian was a pioneering research chemist specifically focusing on the synthesis of drugs from plants for medicinal purposes. He was the first person to synthesize physostigmine and worked on making industrial scale production of human hormones progesterone and testosterone from plant sterols. 

 

The work he did in the 1950’s and sixties changed the world we live in today. His pioneering work made it possible for the steroid drug industry to produce many of its drugs including birth control.  Julian has more than 130 chemical patents and is considered to be the greatest African-American chemists of all time.
