As we know the speed at which photons can travel is essentially the “speed limit” within our Universe. To our current knowledge nothing can travel faster than 299,792,458 meters per second and even getting close to this golden number takes an enormous amount of energy. CERN uses the power of a small city to accelerate a single particle towards the limit so you could probably imagine the energy needed to accelerate, say, a human… It would be biblical. And thats the problem scientists are trying to overcome.

In this documentary Dr Marcus du Sautoy interviews a group of international scientists who are working on way to travel faster than light. This all started when this team claimed to have discovered particles which seem to do the impossible; move faster than the golden number. This claim contradicts more than 100 years worth of science and it also allows talk as to how the particles could do this. Will we be able to travel through parallel universes and jump through wormholes in the future? Dr Sautoy explores this bizarre yet revolutionary concept in a clear concise way. We are on the dawn of a quantum age where science fact is often found to be more strange than one could possibly conger up. Is the speed of light simply just a stepping stone onto something much grander and more complex?
