A Cold War documentary series produced by CNN covering many aspects of this era. The Cold War officially lasted between 1947 - 1991 and was a string of tensions between nuclear powers with opposing values; Capitalism to the west led by the United States and communism to the East led by the Soviet Union. While no direct conflict ever broke out between nuclear countries they came very close in 1960 during the Cuban missile crisis which is considered to be the height of the war, fortunately, talks between US  president John F Kenedy, secretary of defense Robert McNamara and Cuba defused the situation which is explored in great depth in the documentary The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara.

Millions of people died during The Cold War in its proxy wars, two most notable of which is the war in Korea and Vietnam. These wars were backed by communist and capitalist ideologies though it was only the US that actually put boots on the ground, fearing each and every time that a Russian involvement would bring about a nuclear World War 3.

Paranoia between the US and Russia began with the end of the second world war and dividing up of Germany. When the Berlin wall was knocked down and the subsequent collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 marked the end of The Cold War.
