Children of Darkness, a disturbing 1983 documentary about children who are living with mental disorders which have pulled their lives apart.
The film, which was directed by Richard Kotuk and Ara Chekmayan follows a group of children who have been isolated from society because of a range of problems including schizophrenia and autism. The main focus of this documentary is to highlight the issues these individuals face as they are placed in facilities with people who are not equipped with the means to help them.
For its hard-hitting reality and bringing forward an important issue Children of Darkness was nominated for an Oscar at the Academy Awards in 1984.
