This war on terror documentary by renowned filmmaker and journalist John Pilger was one of the first of it’s kind to analyse the subject. Released just 6 months after the invasion of Iraq orchestrated by Tony Blair and George Bush the film was way ahead of its time, uncovering and dissecting the truths and lies peddled to the public by mainstream media VIA government outlets. With a focus on the American and British jurisdictions for both the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“Truth and Lies in the War On Terror” opens with shocking footage of the Iraq war. In the background we can hear statements made by George Bush, one being: "will bring to the Iraq people food, medicine, supplies and freedom... we have shown Freedom's power and in this great conflict we will see Freedom's victory" and by ex-British Priminister Blair claiming the war was “a fight for justice” and a “fight for freedom”.

These statements are picked apart in detail by Pilger who comes to the conclusion given the facts, that the war on terrorism is nothing to do with helping out civilians in middle eastern countries but a power grab by western countries to gain control over oil resources and increase global dominance. Showing that barely any real facts were actually presented to the US and British public regarding “weapons of mass destruction”, and in many instances were absolute fabrications which have led to many people in the UK to call for Tony Blair to be held accountable for war crimes at The Hague International Criminal Court.
