American Sheriff, a 2018 law-and-order documentary by Lucy Kennedy as part of the Faultlines series for the Aljazeera news network, investigating the power of sheriffs in the United States.
The film is very critical of the enormous amount of power sheriffs possess, and sometimes abuse. Sheriffs and their deputies account for around one-quarter of all sworn-in law enforcement in the US. This includes the regular police and FBI. But unlike the rest of law enforcement, sheriffs are essentially self-governing and once voted in (often in a high bias vote) they are in office indefinitely in some states, unless the public votes them out.
