American director Morgan Neville presents, 20 Feet from Stardom, a documentary about backup singers. The backup singer lives just outside the limelight of the lead singer in the pop world and never really gets the attention he/she probably deserves, something which lends to the documentaries title. Through interviews and archive footage we explore the history of the (for the most part) African American singers who provided the soul behind many songs in the pop rock era. 20 Feet from Stardom takes a close look at how people have made a living from this profession and explores the difficulties that they have had to go through which are often different from their pop star counter-parts.
