The stats of our own sun at the center of the solar system are simply astonishing. You could fit a million Earths inside of it. It contains 99.86% of the entire mass of the solar system which means it has a mass of around 330,000 times that of earth. Earth seems massive from our perspective but it would just be a blip on the the suns surface which burns at an average temperature of around 5,505°c. At its core your will find temperatures of around 15 million degrees which is hard to imagine.

The action that the sun uses to produce this immense heat-energy is fusion and it started around 4.6 billion years ago when matter at the center of the solar system collapsed under the immense pressure of gravity.

In this documentary Brian Cox explores efforts to create fusion energy here on earth. Harnessing the same driving force that powers the sun is something that could change all of lives for the better.
