Comet Catcher tells the story of the historic landing of the probe Rosetta on comet 67P/Curyumov-Gerasimenko. The first stage of the mission was a massive achievement alone which put Rosetta in orbit around the comet, upon reaching this goal on November 12th 2014 after ten years of flight the Philae lander was deployed on the surface of the unexplored object.

The main goal of the mission was to understand how life came to be on Earth. This may see like a strange way to go out it but the theory is that comets brought water to the surface of Earth which is crucial for life. In this documentary we see the efforts that scientists went to to get this data back from from a hostile object in deep space. Rosetta has in fact made may valuable discoveries after two years on the comets surface, a major discovery was exposed ice which was confirmed to be water by ESA on January 13th 2016.
